[ hi, this is elena gilbert. this is going to be the best introduction: while sam has his back turned to face off a few zombies and elena's been sequestered to hide against a shed, she picks up a stray shovel, clearly scared out of her wits, and gives a shambling rotbag heading right towards them both a nasty uppercut.

she's never quite seen a human's - or an anything's - head snap back like that. although she's seen plenty of snapped necks. and the thing takes a grotesque moment to gurgle out a moan and keep coming too.

so she shovel slaps it across the face again. ]

[Best introduction indeed. Sam jumps, and then whips around at the sound of the shovel crashing against one of the zombies, gun already at the ready. He doesn't quite pull the trigger, though, because he's momentarily surprised by the appearance of the girl. The girl with the shovel. He does shoot the thing when it continues to move, though, and doesn't let down his guard until Elena and her shovel have successfully beaten down the thing. And then, he drops the gun slightly, looking warily at the newcomer.]

... Uh. Good job?

[ this might be her first zombie kill. battered in head: check. doing what she had to do: check. a little shaken: check. she turns around to face sam, still holding the shovel that is definitely dripping blood and brain tissue, and she holds it slightly away from her body. elena is having some trouble with eye contact, considering all the shock. but she manages. ] Thanks. I think. Wh-who are you?

[Sam, who has too much experience with this kind of thing, can tell that the woman in front of him is shaken up. He manages some semblance of a smile, trying to be reassuring in an essentially hopeless situation.]
