Brienne is clearly strong enough that, with her blade, she probably has the capacity to carve herself a more permanent path out of the melee of six zombies than Giles is. Sometimes a sharp blow with his scavenged hatchet will ruin the zombie's brains and put them down, but sometimes it won't. Really, his main advantage here is experience: experience with zombies, experience with hatchets, experience in knowing just when to duck and weave.

Welcome. [Giles will set to work covering her back, stopping anything from getting past her defenses with quick, sharp blows. The zombies shamble towards them, reaching, groaning, unheeding of the danger with the scent of fresh blood, brains, and flesh in the air. They're resilient, fanatical in their hunger, but they can die.
