though both of them surviving was by far the best scenario. ]
Just... [ he starts to protest, wanting to assert that if the chance arrives, she needs to go. but the look in her eyes makes it obvious that's not going to work. ] Alright. [ he relents, even as he quietly resolves in his mind to make a path for her no matter what. if he has to throw her to safety, he'll do it.
she couldn't be that heavy, right? ]
Just don't do anything stupid. [ he says, while planning to do something very stupid himself (go figure). a few more zombies get near, earning themselves multiple slashes as well - they were persistent, these things. no matter how much force he put into his blows, one just never seemed to be enough. ]

okay, no, focus.
point is - she knows full well by now all that ichigo has gone through. not that the boy's ever kept any secrets from his friends, but there were definitely a few details (and fights) that she hadn't been all that aware of, and now she is and like hell she'll let him go through any of that again. ]

she gestures ahead of her, hinagiku, lily, and baigon already materializing (a rather weak-looking) santen kesshun behind them. ]

anyway, the look she gives him is just a bit shy of "are you serious?" because of course it's about you, though she supposes he still doesn't know about that, having not read their canon and everything. --not that she's complaining, or anything. ]
Don't make such hasty decisions yet, that's all I'm trying to say. There's still a chance we can both make it out okay. [ stop being such a negative nancy!
she presses her hands against his back, starting to direct him out of their makeshift hiding spot. ] Now hurry! Maybe I can make a distraction for us...

[ he reaches back to wrap an arm around her, for a second drawing her in close to him...
before pretty much lifting her up and throwing her in front of him. it's a good thing he knows how to handle people delicately huh. ] Just go, alright? [ if she plans to protest, he's going to hear none of it... since rather than stick around, he runs forward into the oncoming hordes. it's better than just waiting to get overwhelmed, right... ]

anyway, there are more important things to consider right now, like the fact that she quite literally stopped breathing when he draws her close. that, coupled with the look he gives her (and the thought of certain not-so-secret love confessions!) does nothing to quell her racing heart either and, well, okay, in the middle of a zombie attack isn't the most romantic time but whatever she's flexible she can roll with this her eyes are already starting to close and-- ]

[ okay so it's no toss down from that phoenix gallows thing in soul society, but it still catches her off guard and gets her up in the air for longer than she would have liked. she stumbles once her feet touches the ground again, propelling her forward even farther. ]
K-Kurosaki-kun!!! [ wow if she didn't love you so much she'd be so infuriated! actually, no, wait, yeah she's still pretty angry because WOW THIS IS NOT PART OF THE PLAN??? how is she supposed to protect you with her shield if you run away like that?! well like hell she'll be listening to him either, so this is orihime, running right at your heels. ]
Kurosaki-kun, you need to work on your team work skills!

wait, what? that's not how this was supposed to go! why would she come after him?? ]
You're going to the wrong way! [ he shouts back, quickly dodging under the swipe of another zombie's arm before casually kicking it back. he seems more annoyed by orihime's obstinance than, well, the monsters trying to kill him. he slams the flat of his sword into the thing, sending it flying backwards, before turning to address orihime again. ]
That way! [ he says, pointing down another street. it had been closed off to them until only moments ago, but now that he'd forced these things back a bit she had her path out of here.
...if only she'd actually use it... ]

I'm not useless, Kurosaki-kun, I can help! [ ...probably. no - mostly. no - definitely! to prove her point, she shifts to stand in front of him and with her arms thrust out, she musters up just enough energy to send a few of the zombies staggering back a few feet with her shield.
okay, that wound up winding her more than she would have preferred, but she puts on a brave face anyway! turning back to him, she slings an arm around one of his and starts to hastily drag him back towards that path. if one of them is going through it, the other one is too! ]

I didn't say you were useless! [ he shouts back, kicking another zombie back before decapitating it. he seems to be fighting well, for someone hardly paying attention to what he's doing. ]
I'm just saying you'd be more useful over there! [ he points again... causing a zombie to grab his outstretched arm. he shakes the thing off him, before punching it in the face. not the wisest way to fight a zombie, admittedly, but he quickly follows up by bashing the hilt of his sword into its head. but before he can do anymore, he's being dragged off. he seems to struggle for a bit before realizing...
oh hey, they can both run away. at which point he finally stops struggling and just follows, casting a glance back at the approaching zombies every now and then to make sure they're getting away. ]
wow who accidentally sends a tag before it's done how lame is that
but anyway she's not even going to argue with you right now because you know why OH LOOK THEY'RE ESCAPING TOGETHER just like she said they could would you look at that.
now they may not have fancy shunpo or whatever here, but they're still a heck of a lot faster than zombies trying to drag their rotting bodies across the ground, and once that path had been cleared up, it's really just smooth sailing for them now ri-- ]

[ except for the part where somebody - it doesn't matter who, this is not a time to point fingers! but maybe it might have been her - trips on some upturned or cracked concrete either way because they're still somewhat attached to each other they both go down.

it's alright, orihime. things were going too smoothly anyway. there was actually a reasonable possibility that they could both escape alive, and we can't have that! those poor zombies would go hungry. your valiant trip is truly a gesture of noble self-sacrifice.
well, sacrificing yourself and someone else, so maybe not entirely self-sacrifice. ]

[ they get thoroughly tangled up as they fall, though ichigo bears the brunt of the impact as he lands below her.

this whole thing is made even worse by the fact that he takes the brunt of the fall. she finds herself winding up right on top of him, face smashed against his chest like some stupid shoujo manga except for the part where there are zombies and they could die and there are zombies.
she's about to apologize for something that may or may not be her fault but before she can even do that, she feels a hand grab her ankle and she completely freaks out, screaming wildly into ichigo's chest, hands curled over the material of his shirt.
there's a flash of golden light, and the startled groans and grunts of several zombies that had just been blasted back thanks to the reappearance of her shield. fortunately, it knocks the zombies back enough to grant them some time.
unfortunately, that little bout there has completely drained her.
left shaking and breathless over him, orihime can only bury her face in ichigo's chest and let out a weak, ]

ugh, he really wishes it had been. that would make learning he was a fictional character slightly more bearable. ]
H, hey, calm down!
[ it's a bit hard since she's on top of him, but he tries to get her to stop screaming, placing a hand on top of her head. it really doesn't work though, and with her flailing on top of him he just kind of ends up in an even more awkward position. at least her shield saved them from what would have doubtless been certain doom.
he's annoyed, definitely. but when she apologizes, he just replies with a grumble. ]

[ ...he remains there underneath her, not sure what else to say or do. until hearing moans as the zombies blasted back seem to be getting back up. ]

and that's interesting to note, that ichigo would have been more comfortable being part of a shoujo manga. :|b ]

[ it's a very good idea, really! the best idea, in fact, considering they're likely ten, fifteen seconds away from getting pounced on my zombies, should zombies actually pounce. orihime's definitely not going to attest this idea. nope.

and, again, it's not because she doesn't want to. she just can't! having used all her energy and will on that last little burst just a minute ago, she's practically jelly against ichigo right now. if she could even lift her head, she would. (though his chest is kind of comfortable...

...K-Kurosaki-kun? [ this is right around the time when the world should be opening up to swallow her whole. yes. ] I can't get up.

What? [ he just stares, not really registering what she's said. ] What do you mean you can't?
[ but just as she claims, she really... apparently can't... get up. well that really only leaves one choice for him, unless he wants to get eaten. he shifts underneath her, bracing himself a bit and moving his arms.
before lifting her up princess style as he gets up. it's a good thing he's still abnormally strong here!! ]
Hold tight. [ and without another word, he breaks into a run. or an attempt at a run, anyway. it's kind of hard to do while carrying her... ]
